Trip to Friends in Port Elgin. On Lake Huron.

Delightful breakfast at Schmidts Restaurant and gift shop. Relaxed place with vintage art and gifts. Delicious breakfast fare always on hand. Good coffees. Friendly people. Several foursomes of retired men. Filled up. Wellesley by the Lake. Short drive northwest of Waterloo.

Then time consuming drive up to Lake Huron and Amberley and the Bluewater. Laughingly named Ontario’s West Coast. Highway 21 to Port Elgin.  Surprises in store. Not all good ones; but ultimately a happy reunion with an old high school and law school chum.  The past reviewed with wiser eyes.

His mother Bobbe had been one of my mother’s three best friends. His father had been a reputed Dental Surgeon in London. His wife Julie I had known since Kindergarten. Memories re-examined through wiser eyes. Her Dad also was a dentist. Jim Guest. I had YMCA and summer camp connections with Doctor Jim and his gracious wife Geri and other children Scott and Lorie.

On the drive up I enjoyed old favoured songs on CD. Like Carly Simon…

The Stiles family on another occasion.
