Grey Owl (1888-1938)

So I was busking in front of Walmart, and up came this woman, initial J.

She had just gotten back from a week of holiday at a cottage up North. Everything had been topnotch. Weather. Amenities. Charges for the cottage. Drive up and down to Kirkland Lake.

I reminisced about fishing trips to Lake Temagami with my Dad and two of his very dear friends, Ron and Bill. The subject of Grey Owl came up (Archie Belaney, an imposter from the English Channel, who posed as a half breed guide). Spent quality time around Temagami and Biscotasing. He did a convincing job. He wrote narratives about canoe trips for Toronto businessmen. And life among the beaver, wolves, bear and moose. Eventually he turned from hunter guide to conservation champion. England in particular enjoyed his exciting accounts and writings about Canadian wilderness. Everyone bought into the half-breed yarn.

Regrettably Archie left behind a string of women partners/wives, and a cyclical problem with alcohol.

The woman at Walmart was very interested. She had the link for this blog on music and harmonicas. My little business card for HARMONICAHELPS.  I said that I would post something.

Now accomplished with best wishes, J.
